How to spend tokens to extend a deadline
What tokens are
Section titled “What tokens are”Tokens are how you buy extra time on an assignment, no email or awkward ask required. Your instructor gives you a balance of tokens, and you spend them to extend a deadline by however many hours you need.
Spending tokens
Section titled “Spending tokens”Repository assignments with a deadline that your instructor has priced for extensions have an Extend button in the actions column of your Assignments page. You can use it at any time:
- Before the deadline, to give yourself extra hours past it
- After the deadline, before you submit, to cover the time until you expect to submit. Lateness keeps growing until you do, so buy for when you’ll be done, not just for how late you are right now
- After you submit late, to buy back the hours the submission was late
Click Extend and:
- Pick how many hours you want. If the assignment is late, it starts at the hours you’re late, shown as a tag such as 3h late next to the status
- Check the cost. It’s the tokens-per-hour rate for that assignment times the hours you chose
- Confirm
The tokens come out of your balance and that many hours past the deadline no longer count as late. The deadline shown stays the assignment’s own; a note under it says what your hours did, such as +24h applied · not late until Oct 2, 5:00 PM or +5h applied · no longer late. The only limit is your balance: you can’t pick more hours than your tokens pay for, so buy what you need and no more.
Once an assignment is graded, or submitted on time by closing its issue, there’s nothing left to extend and the button goes away.
Quizzes
Section titled “Quizzes”Quizzes with a due date can be extended with tokens the same way, from the same Extend button. The hours move your due date on that quiz: an attempt you finish inside them is on time, and buying hours after a late attempt takes those hours off its lateness. Once you’ve finished the quiz on time with no attempts left, the button goes away.
Checking your balance and history
Section titled “Checking your balance and history”Open the Tokens page in your classroom to see your current balance and a full log of your transactions: tokens you were given and tokens you’ve spent, with dates. Nothing is hidden, so you can always see where your tokens went.
